The Practical Horn Grade 1 exam consists of three pieces, chosen by the candidate from the appropriate lists in the current syllabus, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests.

Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. 100 marks are required to achieve pass, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction.

In Grades 1â3, this syllabus may be offered on a mini-horn in Bb or F.

Additional information

The accompanied pieces are published in F editions unless otherwise indicated. For those pieces not published in F, candidates may use manuscript transpositions of their parts if necessary.

Some List C pieces are published with transposition suggestions but in the exam they should be played in the written keys only.
