What’s changing and when?
- Refreshed repertoire lists at all grades
- Greater choice of repertoire than ever before, with each list extended to 13 pieces (39 pieces in total per grade)
- A wide variety of music from a more diverse range of composers than in the past
- Each grade includes 18 new choices alongside 21 retained pieces from the 2021 & 2022 lists
There are no changes to any other parts of the Practical Grade and Performance Grade syllabuses this time.
We changed the scales and arpeggios for Piano Practical Grades in 2021. You can find a guide to these requirements here.
Syllabus validity
The Piano Syllabuses 2023 & 2024 come into effect on 1 January 2023.
- Candidates can begin to present pieces from the 2023 & 2024 repertoire lists from 1 January 2023.
- Candidates worldwide can continue to present pieces from the 2021 & 2022 repertoire lists during the overlap period (see below)
Syllabus overlap
A one-year overlap period applies to the previous syllabus.
- Candidates worldwide can present pieces from the 2021 & 2022 repertoire lists until 31 December 2023.
- Candidates taking their exams in 2023 must choose all their three set pieces from the same syllabus.
